Welcome to the Skye and Lochalsh Beekeepers Association
SLBKA aims to support small-scale beekeeping in the Skye, Lochalsh and Lochcarron area.
We are an active group of about 80 members. We organise apiary visits during the summer months, events and talks by visiting experts during the winter, and monthly Zoom meetings throughout the year.
Members of the Association benefit from sharing knowledge and expertise amongst each other and have access to our library of reference books and magazines. Members also have the use of equipment owned by the Association, including honey spinners and a heather honey press, and can buy jars and syrup from the Association’s stocks. Members can also join our Facebook group.

Whilst the weather in our area means that our honey crops are often small, geographic isolation has enabled our bees to remain largely disease free. Information from our member surveys suggests that varroa has not yet reached parts of Skye and Raasay. One of the Association’s aims is to try to supply new beekeepers, and beekeepers moving into the area, with locally-adapted, disease-free bees. If you are starting up beekeeping in our area, please contact us to discuss.
